Business Days Calculator

Count working days between two dates — weekends and US public holidays excluded — or add business days to a start date to find a deadline.

Weekends: Saturday–Sunday. Holidays: US federal public holidays.

How it works

The calculator walks day by day from the start date, counting only Monday–Friday dates that are not US federal public holidays. When a federal holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is treated as the observed holiday; when it falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is observed. This matches how US businesses and government offices count working days.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a business day?

By default, Monday through Friday, excluding US federal public holidays. You can adjust which days count as weekends and the calculator will adapt. Different countries have different public holidays — this tool uses US federal holidays as its reference set.

Does the start date count?

No. The calculator counts forward from the start date, excluding it — the same convention as the days-between calculator. If the start date itself is a business day and you want it included, add one to the result.

How are public holidays handled?

US federal holidays are excluded automatically: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. When a holiday falls on a weekend, the observed weekday is excluded instead.

Can I add or subtract business days from a date?

Yes. Enter a start date and a number of business days (positive to go forward, negative to go back) and the calculator lands on the resulting business day, skipping weekends and holidays.
